We have a code that covers a set of values, rules and moral principles that act as a guide for us when we make decisions and take actions.
1. People, not patients
What binds our users together is their value as people who treasure and share their personal experiences. People Who will always treat a patient as a person and not as a patient, because when we are outside the surgery or the hospital, we are all people. We will always speak from a perspective that is personal and human.
We believe that today's society can improve how it deals with illness. We have noticed that fear, insecurity and bitterness stop people from establishing a natural relationship with their illness. That is why our main goal is to improve that relationship. At People Who we will do our best to provide a new social and participative perspective that helps to build a new society with a more natural relationship with illnesses and an understanding that they are part of life, whether we like it or not.
3. Right to information and knowledge
Individuals have the primary responsibility for managing with their illness. To overcome illness, we have to have access to all the information possible. At People Who we believe in patients being informed from every point of view in life: scientific and medical, practical, human, cultural, etc. Therefore, part of our task consists in providing people with all the available information about a given illness, in a way that is clear and easy to understand.
4. Equality and non-discrimination
At People Who the relationship we have with patients, carers and people who have an interest in or relationship with the illness is identical. We will never discriminate on the basis of illness, or social or economic status.
5. Dignity and empathy
The objective of our actions is to promote personal dignity and worth and always to encourage mutual respect and improvement. At People Who we are committed to putting ourselves in the position of other people at all times in order to improve the work we do. We are friends, not teachers. We listen and talk, we don't give lectures.
We understand illness as part of the essential make up of human beings. We do not dramatize or feel sorry for anyone. For People Who there are no guilty parties or victims in this matter. We will always try to deal with illness objectively and encourage personal involvement.
7. Confidentiality and privacy
This is one our main concerns. That is why at People Who we go even further than current legislation and we don't ask users for their name or surname. In addition, we comply with the High Level of security, the maximum provided for referred to personal data protection.
The People Who team is committed to safeguarding the maximum confidentiality of all the information they have access to as staff members and platform managers.
8. Freedom of expression
Our goal is to create a platform where all users can exercise their freedom of expression, while also protecting the freedom of speech of others. Always with due respect for the other rules included in our code.
9. No brand names in conversations
We want people to speak freely about any subject they want. But we also want to prevent commercial actions related to medicines or laboratories and inappropriate prescriptions. We will make sure that no pharmaceutical product names appear in public conversations between members of the Community.
10. Cooperating with minorities
We want to reach all illnesses, even if they are rare/orphan and affect a minority of people. We will do whatever we can to include them in People Who and offer these people a place where they can converse and continuously improve how their illness is treated.
11. An inclusive project
We are committed to trying to create a meeting point for patients, the people who care for them each day, doctors, the health industry and communication professionals. Searching for the right balance is one of our goals.
12. Sustainable and free
Our project is based on an inclusive, high-quality, sustainable, long-term model. We will always look for ways to maintain the sustainability of the project, so that our platform is always free for people who live with an illness.
We will work using contributions and funds from companies and sponsors to offer high-quality content. However, our deepest commitment is always towards the interest of people who live with an illness and are users of People Who.
14. Management transparency
We will always be transparent about what we do, how we do it and why we do it. We firmly believe that trust is the basic requirement for everyone to achieve their goal of helping to improve the quality of life of people who live with an illness.
15. We are not a substitute for doctors in their clinics
The healthcare professionals who are part of the team will act as community moderators, offering information in reply to users’ questions and providing support. But they will never provide consultation services to patients on the platform. Their work is in no case a substitute for that of doctors in their surgeries.
